Frequently Asked Questions

How do you ship and how long will it take for me to receive my order?

Not all items are stocked in every warehouse. Items ship out of the warehouse that has stock closest to you. We ship FedEx, UPS, Eastern Connection, Golden State Overnight, On Trac, SpeeDee, and USPS if requested. You will receive your order between one and five business days, depending on the shipping method you select at checkout.

What is an OEM cartridge?

An OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) is a company that builds a cartridge that it sells under its own company name and brand. An OEM, such as HP or Epson, will manufacture the cartridge and assign a unique part number to that product. At Sun, we can use the OEM part number to cross-reference to a compatible cartridge.

What is a compatible cartridge?

Compatible simply means that though the product is not manufactured by the OEM, it will still fulfill the same purpose. For example, most people do not use HP paper in HP printers; they use something similar that works just as well and costs much less.

In addition, "compatible cartridges" can be separated into two categories. They may contain either "100% new components" or "new and recycled components". For instance, our compatible maintenance kits and fusers have a recycled and refurbished fuser and new aftermarket rollers.

What is a remanufactured cartridge?

Remanufactured cartridges have been refurbished and reprocessed from an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) empty core. The process differs by manufacturers and materials used with varying results in quality and page yields. Our remanufactured cartridges are produced to stringent quality control standards, using lab-tested components to ensure consistent OEM-equivalent performance.

What is a MICR cartridge?

MICR stands for 'Magnetic Ink Character Recognition'. MICR toner is used mostly to print checks, so that they can be read by a bank's scanning system.

Do compatible and remanufactured cartridges last as long as OEM?

All of our compatible and remanufactured cartridges are manufactured according to OEM specifications. They are guaranteed to perform as well as the OEM. Many compatible and remanufactured products outperform the OEM page yields.

Why was my page yield less than the stated page yield?

All page yields are based on 5% coverage which is the industry standard as established by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Learn more... However it's a little misleading as 5% of a page is actually very little print - about the size of a small memo. For example, if you're printing on 50% of the page, the expected page yield would be a tenth (10%) of the stated page yield. So your page yield will most likely be less than the stated yield - no matter where you buy the cartridge, as everyone's yields are all based on only 5% coverage.

Will a compatible or remanufactured cartridge void my machine's warranty?

No! The manufacturer cannot void your machine's warranty for using cartridges other than theirs. For more information, please consult your Sun Account Manager. To see your rights as a consumer, click here.

How do your manufacturers ensure quality?

All of the cartridges Sun agrees to sell are individually tested during manufacturing and must pass through a Triple Quality Control inspection before they are shipped to you. The quality standards include testing each component prior to manufacturing, during production, and even after the products are on the shelf. The products are even subjected to extreme conditions such as temperature, atmospheric pressure, humidity, and simulated shipping conditions to ensure the product performs perfectly in every situation, every time. The result is a high performance product that produces darker prints and sharper graphics - every time.

What sort of impact does the inkjet and toner industry have on the environment?

Each year, millions of cubic feet of non-biodegradable laser & inkjet cartridges are thrown into our nation's landfills. In 25 years, the total amount of discarded cartridges could fill more than half of the Grand Canyon. What many do not know, however, is that there are companies out there dedicated to recycling cartridges.
